Lola's Place - A Montessori Infant and Toddler Environment
Speak Up

The Boyd School of Fairfax has been instrumental in helping our child achieve her full potential as an independent, academically well-prepared, and socially confident kindergartner.  During preschool and early admission kindergarten experience, we have watched our daughter blossom with the guidance, encouragement, and expertise of the amazing Boyd School Teachers and staff.  We are forever grateful for the precious time spent in the Boyd School's nurturing environment and in the development of Olivia's strong educational foundation.

Thank you!

Both our oldest two children have attended The Boyd School (and our third will go when she is three) and we have been extremely pleased and impressed with our experiences there. The teachers are kind, professional and very in touch with the needs of each child. At every conference, informal discussions with the teacher, and with every progress report, we have felt that the comments were insightful and so accurately described our children. The work in the classroom is set up so thoughtfully and really serves to stimulate a childs interest and to facilitate in their learning. Tasks are assigned carefully to have mastery of one concept aid in the understanding of more advanced work. In both verbal and math skills, the work is so conceptual and "hands-on" that a child can truly understand and visualize a problem or task. We would really recommend this school to any child.

Brenda

Dear Sir/Madam,

In August of last year I enrolled my two (2) children in your school located at Waxpool Road in the suburb of Ashburn/Broadlands. At enrollment I was greeted by the principal, Ms. Monica, Ms Debbie & Mr. Michael and was treated in the most courteous and friendly manner I have never experienced at any interview, including those I have attended when applying for a position in my professional capacity.

Since then, the continuing friendly and helpful outlook of not only the principal, but of all staff, qualified and non-qualified, as well as office staff, has been exemplary and to my mind, is a credit to their dedication and outlook. It also speaks highly of your selection appraisal.

My children have progressed far beyond my expectations and apart from the very occasional "I don't want to go to school today" fits of pique, eagerly look forward to the school day. Each of the children's teachers, Ms Niketa, Ms Liz, Ms Carol and Ms Angela, are exceptional.

No doubt the principal, Ms. Monica has at times a difficult task handling the queries and requests of parents, and mine are no exception. However she does so with great aplomb and skill.

I intend that my family will continue our relationship with the Boyd School until such time as they must move on, be it by age requirements or by family relocation.

My thanks and compliments to yourself, the owners, and the staff of the Boyd School.

Yours sincerely,
Johanna Emory

MaryAnn:

I once read that we often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude.

It's unfortunate that we set aside only five days a year to go out of our way to make teachers -- the daily guides for our children as they grow -- feel appreciated and thanked for all the hard work they do, and for all the challenges they endure and overcome.  I hope you understand how much your administrators and teachers are appreciated every day of the year, and how important they are in our lives.

We have been a Boyd School family for four years now.  The length of our stay at Boyd, or the fact that we have more than one child enrolled at the school, is not a unique distinction -- certainly, there are other families with longer records of enrollment!  What does set us apart is the fact that we have had the pleasure of attending two Boyd School campuses and having the opportunity to experience the smiles, patience, honesty, friendship, enthusiasm, dedication, and most importantly, grace, from Boyd teachers and administrators at both the Reston and Broadlands campuses.   It is an exceptional accomplishment to identify and support strong teams of administrators and teachers in multiple schools.

Since Mary Frances and James came to us nearly three years ago at the Reston campus, they have been a phenomenal and unstoppable team.  We are greeted each day with smiles; our children are comforted each day with hugs; and I have no worries knowing my son is under their watchful eyes.  I know they work very hard each day to encourage and support the Reston staff, and to provide the students with exciting new opportunities.  They provide a strong sense of comfort to parents, from reassuring messages as we head back to school after an extended break, to paying attention to the smallest detail.  I appreciate the fact that they make being at Boyd well, easy.

We have been lucky to spend a year with Laura and Katherine in the toddler room at Reston.  Our son, Ethan, has really progressed in their class, and we know that Laura and Katherine have been an integral part of that transformation.  We know that he can be a challenge on many days, and we thank them for their patience, understanding, and "tough love" that we can't always manage to muster at home.  This toddler room team is highly valued and we are thankful for their dedication and fortitude during these "terrible twos."

To say Mary Frances and James set a high bar is an understatement -- from our experience, we expected a lot when our daughter enrolled at the Broadlands campus for lower elementary this year.  But Monica and Debbie have been an extraordinary team this year with their enthusiasm and dedication to the school.  Monica has an amazing love for the Montessori system and for her students -- and she exudes this excitement and passion in every conversation.  Each time I hear her talk about the Montessori philosophy, my belief in Boyd and this method of teaching is renewed.  Debbie brings much grace and order to such a large school.  Her gentle and kind nature is so welcome in the chaos of excited children!  While we are sad to leave them as our daughter Talia returns to the Reston campus in the fall, we are glad that we had the opportunity to learn from them this year.

We have also enjoyed the lower elementary experience with Tahirih, Shelly, and Michael this year.  Each has a different personality, expertise, and approach to teaching -- and combined, it is a formidable force.  The opportunity alone to work with so many different personalities is a learning experience in itself -- each has done a part in teaching our daughter Talia to be enthusiastic about learning, curious and always questioning, and to be confident in herself and her abilities.  To observe our daughter's excitement about learning and school, and her exceptional academic progress reaffirms our belief each day that we made the right decision to continue her Montessori education at the lower elementary level.

We appreciate each of these individuals for their enthusiasm, their patience, their support, their dedication, and their grace.  We are deeply thankful that this talented group of educators is part of our children's lives.

With much appreciation, Deb and Ben Carstoiu

This school year marks the 4th year at The Boyd School for the Flynn family. We have 3 children there today: Chase is 6 years old and this is her 4th year at Boyd. Aiden is 4 years old and this marks her 3rd year at Boyd. Finally, there's Seamus who is 2 ½ years old and this is his 1st year.  All of our children started in the Toddler Program.

We initially chose Boyd for 2 reasons: the reputation we heard from other parents and our experience coming through orientation. We were fully impressed by both. It became exceptionally clear that we made the right choice from day one.

Every teacher and staff member we have encountered at Boyd are extremely special in our eyes. The teachers and staff at Boyd go above and way beyond our expectations that we had (which were high to begin with!).

Just some of the reasons why we love the staff and the teachers: they are attentive, they love what they do and it shows, they really do care about our family, they take that extra step and time with our children when needed, they communicate – in many ways – where our child is and where they are headed, they are honest and upright and they have an enormous passion and heart for what they do. Above everything, they are exceptionally driven and focused on teaching and encouraging the Montessori Method of learning and it shows in each project my children do at school and we see it firsthand when they take it home for us to see. We know that there is an open-door policy with the classroom and are thankful for that. If we need to talk, they are there to listen whether it be in person, on the phone or via email. They are very encouraging to us in the things that we do as parents which not many schools can say they do.

We have always said that raising our children is a result of a successful partnership with their school and teachers. We are all parents to them. We could not have picked or designed a better partner than Boyd and its family.

While this is supposed to be a testimony to how wonderful Boyd is, we'd like to take this time and truly thank you for being there for our family all of these years. We have learned so much and will always know that we, as parents, chose the best foundation for our children to start learning. It is the best decision we've made for our children.

“The first two years at Montessori were so important for my son. This foundation was a springboard for his Kindergarten year where all of the learnings of Montessori come together and are applied to reading, writing and match. My son joined first grade with a confidence that has helped him thrive not only academically but also socially. It is amazing to see him help a toddler button his coat, read a book to his younger brother or lay the tale at home”.

Having met and talked with teachers of public middle school children and talking to many older children from Montessori, we made the decision to go with a Montessori preschool for our children. We found the overwhelming characteristics of Montessori child were self-confidence, respect, curiosity in learning and independence.

The Boyd School has exceeded our expectations for our children's preschool experience. I never imagined that I would find my 3 ½ year old reading and writing and my five year old aware of the differences between the North and South Pole. Beyond the impressive and varied curriculum, the staff strikes the perfect balance of being nurturing and firm. There is a real sense of belonging at The Boyd School and I am truly proud to be a part of it.
